Rooted in her upbringing on a small hobby farm in rural Minnesota, Debbie was active in local 4‑H and Saddle Clubs from an early age. In the early 1980s, she balanced college with work at nationally recognized training and breeding facilities in Minnesota, Arizona, and California. She graduated from the University of Minnesota–Waseca in 1986 with degrees in Agri‑Business Management and Light Horse Management.
